Our Story

I first opened a restaurant in this building in 1999 under our then brand Pastiche Bistro, this was the second bistro in the group, the first being in Mill Street Stafford. I was joined by a young, talented chef Mark Medley, who came as head chef and later became my right hand man in the growing business.  I expanded the brand through a franchise network to nine restaurants. I sold the business in 2005. Fast forward three years, and the group that had purchased Pastiche went into liquidation leaving myself and my now Co director Mark Medley the opportunity to reopen a restaurant. We launched 1709 The Brasserie which we have run since 2008. Early 2019 saw a fresh new look, keeping the 1709 brand we had a new logo and Bistro 1709 was born, having sold our other restaurant earlier in 2019 we felt it was time to give 1709 a little makeover.

1709 is a French inspired bistro serving fresh, chef prepared dishes at affordable prices. We have a few exciting ideas of what we do next, but for now it’s time to celebrate `
